Netherlands to bring in lockdown for three weeks requiring bars to shut at 7pm

Tourists heading from Newcastle to the Netherlands face disruption to holidays as the Dutch Government plans to bring in a three-week partial lockdown.

According to Dutch broadcaster NOS, restaurants, bars, and non-essential shops will close from 7pm, gatherings at home will be limited to four people and people will be asked to keep a social distance of 1.5 metres from one another.

Cinemas and theatres are likely to remain open, NOS reports, but that could change.

The Netherlands is also expected to close sports stadiums.

Full measures are expected to be announced by Prime Minister Mark Rutte today, but the mini lockdown is likely to begin on Saturday November 13, and last for three weeks.

It comes as the Netherlands announces record numbers of new Covid-19 cases.

UK tourists are allowed to visit the Netherlands if they are fully vaccinated, flights and ferries connect Newcastle to Amsterdam.
