Netherlands government have brilliantly blunt advice for anyone thinking of travelling there

With various travel restrictions in place around the world, the no-frills government website of the Netherlands has proven to be a viral hit due to its direct, succinct, and blunt tone.

Karel van Oosterom, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the UK, shared a screengrab of the advice that his government is sharing with potential visitors.

The first few words of the webpage are as follows: " Checklist for travel to the Netherlands: Do not travel to the Netherlands."

Sharing the message to Twitter, Mr van Oosterom jokingly said: "Internationally, we the Dutch are seen to be direct and blunt. Our checklist for travel to the Netherlands lives up to that reputation."

Further reading on the landing page does elaborate on the seven-point plan that the Netherlands does currently have in place to deal with people that refuse to accept the blunt warning.

In terms of advice that's being issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs for those that want to visit the country, they've also stated that: "A curfew is currently in place between the hours of 9:00pm and 4:30am" and that "the Dutch government is currently advising against all non-essential travel to the Netherlands.

The recent Covid Performance Index which examined how countries around the world performed in tackling the coronavirus pandemic ranked the Netherlands 75th out of the 98 countries included in the study - below the likes of France, Belgium,, the UK and Germany.

The country also recently experienced a series of riots following the introduction of new coronavirus measures.

The Netherlands currently has 978,475 confirmed cases of coronavirus, while 13,998 have died.
