Netherland's King Willem-Alexander and style icon Queen Maxima to visit Ireland

The Netherlands’ Queen Máxima and King Willem-Alexander are heading to Ireland for their first ever royal visit this week.

The couple have been invited by President Michael D. Higgins in a bid to strengthen relations between Ireland and The Netherlands.

Although it is Willem-Alexander that is the royal in the family, his wife Máxima is often considered the more popular of the two.

Willem-Alexander took to the throne in 2013 after his mother Beatrice abdicated.

Argentinian-born Queen Máxima is well known for her style which is admired all over the world.

Since their marriage in 2002, the Queen has been known to experiment with her outfits - something that is rarely encouraged amongst royalty.

For daywear, she often wears Dutch designers including Claes Iversen and Jan Taminiau and tends to go for typical high fashion houses for formal events.

She is known to use traditional tailoring mixed with bold colours and headpieces to create looks that are unique and classy.

While in the UK last year, Máxima wore a custom beret designed by Philip Treacy, an Irish fashion designer.

It’s not all dresses and ball gowns for the Queen - while at the United Nations headquarters in New York in 2017 she opted for a burgundy suit with matching blouse and in Jordan earlier this year she wore a brown wide leg trouser with a tan wrap coat.

The royal couple are set to make their Irish visit this week and can be expected to arrive on Thursday.
