Netflix has unveiled its latest development under its Games division.
"Unhinged" has been introduced by the company as a first-of-its-kind interactive horror game that is meant to be played on the large screen.
Netflix Debuts New Horror Game, 'Unhinged'
According to a new post from Netflix via X, a new survival horror game is now here, debuting an immersive game experience from the streaming company and Night School Studio. Their partner team, Night School Studio, is known for their work on titles like "Oxenfree" and "Black Mirror: Thronglets."
"Unhinged" is a first-person game that Netflix users get to play through their phone, and it takes just over half an hour to complete. Netflix describes it as a relatively compact experience, saying all that is needed is a Netflix account, a phone, and roughly the same amount of time it takes to watch an episode of a favorite show.
The game leans into the kind of claustrophobic dread found in famed horror games, but this does not require a PC or console to play.
Zoë Kravitz, Sadie Sink, and Troy Baker star in UNHINGED, a new immersive game experience from Netflix and Night School Studio. Coming June 30.

'Unhinged' Streams on TV, Use Phone as Controller
According to DigitalTrends, players will get to launch "Unhinged" through the Netflix Games row on their TV and scan the QR code found on the screen to link their phone as the controller. From there, the integration goes a step further than a typical touchscreen setup.
The phone's real-world movements track directly with the main character's hands in-game, letting players physically guide a flashlight through dark rooms.
When the character receives a call or text, the player's actual phone rings, vibrates, and plays the dialogue straight through its speaker, while environmental sound effects continue through the television.
Night School Studio reportedly built the entire concept around this flashlight and phone integration after discovering the trick roughly two years ago.
What to Expect From 'Unhinged'
The story follows Ava, played by Zoe Kravitz, who becomes trapped inside her apartment building during a brutal Category 5 hurricane. Her only connection to the outside world comes through a call from her best friend Claire, voiced by Sadie Sink, who lives just across the street.
Troy Baker is also part of the cast, voicing the building's superintendent. As the power stays out and the storm rages on, Ava starts to realize the real threat might not be the weather at all.
The game offers two ways to play, including a Story Mode that removes the timer entirely and ensures players cannot die, allowing for a purely narrative playthrough.
On the other hand, there is the more tense experience called the Standard Mode, which raises the stakes with a shrinking timer during key moments, pushing players to locate an interactive object in the room before time runs out.
Missing that window sends players back to their last checkpoint rather than ending the game outright.
"Unhinged" is set to release on Netflix on June 30, available to all subscribers with no ads or in-game purchases attached.
