Netflix urges all users to check their settings ahead of video sharing block

If you pay for Netflix then it might be a good time to check exactly who has access to your account. The streaming giant has confirmed that it is making a major change to its terms that could see users picking up an extra £4.99 per month bill if they’ve dished out their account details to someone else.

Netflix has told Mirror Online that nobody will be automatically charged the extra fee with the firm giving those who want to continue sharing accounts the option to opt-in. Once the new monthly fee is paid, the person piggybacking on a main account will then be able to carry on watching shows such as Drive to Survive and The Crown.

Although no charges will be applied without the subscriber's permission, Netflix says now is still a very good time to dig into the settings and make some changes.

Over the years we’ve all logged into accounts on different devices and handed passwords to old friends and family members.

That means some people could still be benefitting from you paying the monthly fee but it’s very simple to check and stop the streaming taking place in the future.

"Your Netflix account is for you and the people you live with – your household," Netflix explained. "You can easily watch Netflix on the go and when you travel – either on your personal devices or a TV at a hotel or holiday home.

"Check who’s using your Netflix. Review which devices are signed in to your account. Sign out of devices that shouldn’t have access and consider changing your password."

HERE’S HOW TO CHECK YOUR ACCOUNT AND STOP OTHERS USING IT

To see who has access to your account simply head to netflix.com/manageaccountaccess

Here you will what devices have recently accessed your account. If you don't recognise one of them, there's then the option to sign out.

It's then worth changing your password just in case other users happen to know it. Again you can do this via the account page.
