Netflix fantasy series The Witcher is to be the latest blockbuster filmed in Scotland – with key scenes shot on the Isle of Skye.
The show, first streamed in December, was viewed by 76million households worldwide, making it the most-watched first season ever on Netflix.
Work on the highly-anticipated second series is already under way and will come to Skye later in the year.
Superman actor Henry Cavill, 33, features as the title character Witcher – otherwise known as Geralt of Rivia.
Filming for the big-budget production officially kicks off next week and will also span locations in England, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
It is expected to be released in 2021.
A source said: “The first series of the The Witcher was massive with fans.
“It had a huge following and fans of the show are delighted to hear that there is to be a second series. To hear filming is to take place in Scotland is great news for local fans of the show who might get a sneak peek of upcoming scenes or of the cast.
“It also means the island will be graced with Superman while filming takes place and it will be great to see a superhero walking about sampling what it has to offer.”
The Sunday Mail revealed that new Hollywood blockbuster The Batman – starring Twilight actor Robert Pattinson – will be filmed in Glasgow later this month.
Last week, we told how the makers of the movie sent an SOS to Scots car enthusiasts asking for use of American-style cars. Skye is the latest destination north of the Border chosen as a production backdrop.
In 2011, Glasgow was transformed into Philadelphia for post-apocalyptic zombie flick World War Z, starring Brad Pitt.
Last year, scenes for action thriller Fast and Furious 9, starring Dwayne Johnson and Idris Elba, were filmed in the city.
