Netflix show The English Game filming in Liverpool

New Netflix show The English Game has been filming on the streets of Liverpool.

The six-part drama is from Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes and will look at the origins of the beautiful game and how it reaches across the 'class divide'.

Actors involved in the project include, Line of Duty's Craig Parkinson, Fantastic Beasts' Kevin Guthrie and Game of Thrones' Charlotte Hope.

Today, part of the city was taken back in time as e xtras were seen lining the street in period dress as members of the crew made finishing touches to their costumes.

The actors were rehearsing and popping on sunglasses during breaks to shade themselves from the bright sunlight.

There was also a horse and carriage, while men in top hats waited for their cue.

It looks set to hit the streaming service sometime next year as they continue filming through the summer.
