Stranger Things will return to Netflix for a 'supersize' fourth season in just a few months' time - but its fifth season will be the last.
Actress Millie Bobby Brown - who plays Eleven - has shared a first look at the posters ahead of the new series, and now Netflix has confirmed that the popular TV series will be back in just a matter of months in a special bumper season.
Starring the likes of David Harbour as Jim Hopper, Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler and Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, Stranger Things will make its return to our screens before the summer is up for a special series - which will be double the length of its predecessors.
It follows the story of a young boy who goes missing, with his mother, a police chief and his friends forced to confront the most terrifying supernatural forces in a bid to get him back home.
Creators, The Duffer Brothers, have revealed the fourth season will be split into two parts - Volume 1, which will premiere on May 27th and then there will be a second volume, which will begin airing five weeks later on July 1st.
"It’s been a little while," they wrote in a lengthy open letter to fans, "With nine scripts, over eight-hundred pages, almost two years of filming, thousands of visual effects shots and a runtime nearly twice the length of any previous season, Stranger Things 4 was the most challenging season yet, but also the most rewarding one.
"Everyone involved is incredibly proud of the results, and we can’t wait to share it with you. Given the unprecedented length, and to get it to you as soon as possible, Season 4 will be released in two volumes."
They have also announced that the fifth season of the show will be the last.
"Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things," they shared.
"At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four but - as you’ll see for yourselves - we are now hurtling toward our finale. Season 4 will be the penultimate season; season 5 will be the last."
However, the creators promised there would "still be many more exciting stories to tell within the world of Stranger Things: new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes".
