Stranger Things will be drawing to a close after five seasons.
The sci-fi megahit, which airs on Netflix, has had viewers hooked ever since Will vanished on a gloomy night in the first episode of 2016.
Now, three mysterious seasons later, fans might finally be closer to discovering the identity of ‘The American’ - but it comes with the bittersweet knowledge that Stranger Things is ending for good.
Fans of the TV phenomenon have been keenly awaiting the fourth instalment after 2019's third season left most of the characters on a cliffhanger.
Among many unanswered questions from the last series, super-powered teen Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) was seen moving out of the town of Hawkins, Indiana, with her new family, including Winona Ryder's Joyce.
We can now breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the storyline for series four will be drawn out across two seasons.
Sources close to the sci-fi action recently told We Got This Covered that although season four was meant to be the last, there is serious talk that the plot will be extended, which means season five will be the final showdown.
The Duffer Brothers, who created the show, also spoke about their excitement that Netflix had renewed Stranger Things for the final seasons.
"We are absolutely thrilled to continue our relationship with Netflix,” they opened in their statement.
"Ted Sarandos, Cindy Holland, Brian Wright, and Matt Thunell took a huge chance on us and our show - and forever changed our lives.

Although the actors have kept tight lipped about the upcoming season, it has been rumoured that filming for series four will start this month and will take place in Lithuania on the set of Chernobyl.
