Netflix has released a new trailer for its forthcoming documentary about late East Coast rapper The Notorious BIG.
Arriving on Netflix on 1 March, Biggie: I Got a Story to Tell is executive produced by Smalls's mother, Voletta Wallace, and Sean “Diddy” Combs. The project is directed by Emmett Malloy, who has directed music videos for Vampire Weekend, The White Stripes, Beck, Avril Lavigne and Blink-182, and is known for his film The Tribes of Palos Verdes.
Featuring behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with some of the rap legend's (also known as Chris Wallace) closest friends, the documentary explores Biggie's rapid rise to fame in the 1990s and looks at his “struggle to provide” (Wallace started dealing drugs at 12 years old).
“Big had a gift of talent that saved a lot of people’s lives but his,” one of the rapper’s friends says in the trailer.
"We had no origins for what rap planet this guy came from," Diddy said of his friend’s immense talent.
Biggie was killed in 1997 at the age of 24.
Last year, Diddy shared a memory on Instagram about the day Biggie wrote his chart-topping hit “Hypnotize”.
"Big was the perfect artist! This candid moment when BIG was having writers block. This only happened to him once. He was talking about retiring. And I’m basically just tell him to stop talking crazy and that he was the greatest of all time," Diddy captioned the photo.
