Netflix's new true-crime series looks at three of the world's biggest heists

Having proven themselves to be adept at mysteries and true crime documentaries, Netflix has recently moved towards making a very different type of documentary series.

This Is a Robbery: The World's Biggest Art Heist saw the online streaming giant begin to create original features on some of the world's most daring, elusive and thought-provoking heists.

Well, their new feature will chronicle three of the biggest heists in modern American history, as explained by the people who pulled them off.

In the new documentary series Heist, the filmmakers will be embracing the spirit of Oceans Eleven, Catch Me If You Can and The Sting as they ask viewers one simple question, what would you risk for the score of a lifetime?

In terms of the three robberies, the first one revolves around a 21-year-old woman who steals millions in Vegas casino cash.

Elsewhere, viewers will learn all about an aspiring father who swipes a fortune from the Miami airport - and uses TV shows to learn how to get away with it - and finally, the third feature is about a Kentucky dad that's accused of one of the biggest bourbon burglaries in history.

In terms of the narrative approach that the filmmakers will take, we're told that Heist will use "dynamic reenactments, original interviews, and a fast-paced style that fits perfectly into the cinematic canon alongside films like Ocean’s Eleven and Catch Me If You Can,.

Directed by Derek Doneen (The Price of Free), Martin Desmond Roe (Two Distant Strangers), and Nick Frew (We Are the Champions) each director takes the helm of a single heist, told over two episodes.

Heist will be released on Netflix on July 14.
