Netflix's new nature documentary Night On Earth offers spectacular footage of nocturnal animals

Following its success with the Sir David Attenborough-fronted Our Planet, Netflix has launched a brand new nature series which documents what various animals get up to after dark.

Using ground-breaking technology to document the behaviour of nocturnal creatures, Night On Earth grants viewers a unique insight into the world of the animal kingdom.

Consisting of six episodes and narrated by The Handmaid's Tale actress Samira Wiley, the new series explores various habitats - from the African Savanna to the Peruvian desert.

As the series lands on Netflix (you can watch it now), take a closer look at the phenomenal videography featured in the show...

Leopards in the desert

The first episode in the Netflix series explores the behaviour of a pack of leopards (Netflix)

The series opener sees a pack of leopards traipsing through the African plains, hunting down prey to keep themselves nourished.

With the ability to sprint at over 100 kilometres per hour, these big cats are a powerful force to be reckoned with.

Black rhinos in the African plains

The black rhino is one of the rarest creatures in the world (Netflix)

During a sequence that sees giraffes, elephants and other larger animals drink at an oasis, viewers are introduced to the beautiful black rhino.

While the creatures are extremely rare, narrator Wiley explains that they come together after dark to quench their thirst at the watering hole.

The rhinos aren't exactly comfortable in each other's company, but the camera catches the exquisite moment they rehydrate together.

Scorpions in the savanna

Two giant, hairy scorpions are illuminated by ultraviolet light. (Netflix)

The two scorpions, illuminated by ultraviolet light, are locked in a mating ritual.

The female scorpion is testing the male's strength, before a brave mouse runs at one of the scorpions, its body impenetrable to the poisonous sting.

Night On Earth is the latest title to be added to the streaming service's nature documentary canon.

You can watch all six episodes on Netflix now.
