Netflix's bizarre new dating show Sexy Beasts divides viewers after release of trailer

Netflix has released a trailer for its strange new dating show, Sexy Beasts.

Viewers were left divided as the trailer revealed that singletons taking part in the show will be transformed into a variety of fantastical creatures.

Participants will wear elaborate special effects makeup and prosthetics during dates with potential love interests.

Netflix has defined the new series as an amalgamation of the popular shows The Masked Singer and Love Is Blind.

A voiceover heard in the bizarre trailer says, “Welcome to the strangest blind date ever. Could you fall in love with someone based on personality alone?”

The clip released on Twitter teases scenes from the new series as we catch a glimpse of what you can expect to see from the shock factor show.

Contestants are seen going on typical first dates such as bowling and having dinner while having their faces completely hidden behind some very impressive prosthetics.

Some of the characters given to the contestants include a shark, devil, scarecrow, mouse and a panda.

The social experiment will truly put the theory of "it is what is on the inside that counts" to the test as each contestant will have no idea how their date looks.

It wasn’t only viewers that found the dating show strange as in the trailer, one singleton can be heard saying: "You're the best-looking devil I've ever seen," before she laughs back: "This is really weird right now."

Another contestant asked: "What if I pick you and I'm not what you expect underneath?"

It appears that Netflix gained some inspiration from the original Sexy Beasts, which aired on BBC Three in 2014.

The broadcaster was quick to point the similarities of the two shows by tweeting: “Say you’re copying our homework, without saying you’re copying our homework.”

Twitter users were divided in what they thought about the show.

One user said: “That’s… so f***ing strange BUT also a good idea??? Kind of??? I low-key definitely want to watch it haha”.

Another said: “The bottom of the barrel is being scraped so hard now, there’ll be nothing left soon!”

The reality show is set to air on July 21, so you will have to wait a while to see this strange dating scenario unfold.
