Netflix Reportedly Developing Live-Action 'Persona' TV Series With 'Star Trek: Picard' Writer

Netflix is reportedly expanding its lineup of video game adaptations with a live-action television series based on Sega and Atlus' acclaimed "Persona" franchise.

The streaming platform is in the early stages of developing the project, although neither Netflix nor Sega has officially confirmed the adaptation.

If the report proves accurate, the "Persona" series could become one of Netflix's biggest gaming adaptations, joining a growing catalog of shows inspired by popular video game franchises.

Christopher Monfette Reportedly Joins as Showrunner

According to Variety, Christopher Monfette has signed on as the series' writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Monfette is best known for his work on "Star Trek: Picard" and "9-1-1,"making him an experienced choice for adapting Persona's character-driven stories and supernatural themes.

The reported production team also includes several well-known names in film and television. Shawn Levy and Robert Atwood of 21 Laps are attached as executive producers alongside Story Kitchen's Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson.

Sega producer Toru Nakahara is also expected to executive produce the series, potentially helping preserve the franchise's identity.

Netflix declined to comment on the report when contacted by Variety, and no official announcement has been made.

Which 'Persona 'Game Could Netflix Adapt?

One of the biggest questions surrounding the project is which Persona game will serve as the inspiration for the story.

Since the franchise debuted in 1996, Atlus has released multiple mainline titles, enhanced editions, remakes, and spin-offs. This gives the creative team a wide range of stories and characters to choose from.

According to IGN, many fans believe "Persona 5" is the strongest candidate because of its worldwide popularity and critical acclaim. The game follows the "Phantom Thieves" as they confront corruption through supernatural adventures, later expanded in Persona 5 Royal.

Others speculate that Netflix could create an original story set within the Persona universe rather than directly adapting an existing game.

Fans Already Sharing Theories

Although development remains in its early stages, the report has already generated excitement across the Persona community. Fans are speculating about potential casting choices, iconic characters, the Velvet Room, Social Links, and whether beloved Personas will appear in the live-action series.

Netflix has not announced a production schedule, casting information, or a release date, leaving plenty of room for fan theories as development continues.

Netflix Continues Expanding Its Video Game Adaptations

A live-action "Persona" series would further strengthen Netflix's growing investment in video game adaptations. In recent years, the streaming service has produced successful projects based on popular gaming franchises while continuing its collaboration with production company 21 Laps.

With an experienced creative team reportedly attached and one of gaming's most celebrated RPG franchises as its foundation, the live-action "Persona" adaptation has the potential to become another major addition to Netflix's expanding lineup.

Last time, Sega issued copyright strikes against circulating "Persona 6" leaked images.
