Netflix has renewed the political drama House of Cards for a fourth season.
The series features Washington DC power couple Frank and Claire Underwood in a no-holds-barred attempt to reach the top of the US political system. The unscrupulous couple are played by Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright.
Production on season four is scheduled to begin this summer, for a release in 2016 – the same year as the next US presidential election.

The entire third season of the show was released online on 27 February, after a seemingly accidental early release that was actually a publicity stunt. The third-season finale had an open-ended conclusion, leading many to expect a fourth season (spoiler here).
House of Cards is a hallmark series for Netflix, the online streaming giant that launched in Australia and New Zealand last month. In 2016, it is also scheduled to launch a “reinvented” talk show, hosted by comedian Chelsea Handler.
For April Fools’ Day, the White House released a video of President Barack Obama impersonating Underwood, with a shoddy South Carolina accent.
Spacey, however, has earned a best actor in a television series Golden Globe for his portrayal of Underwood. Wright took home the best actress award at the 2014 award ceremony.
