Netflix outrages 'The Notebook' fans, changes the film's ending

Netflix is coming under serious fire from "The Notebook" fans after changing the 2004 film's adored ending.

The now-classic romantic drama, starring Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling, is remembered for a lot of things _ its portrayal of star-crossed lovers, its unforgettable kiss in the rain, "If you're a bird, I'm a bird," and of course, the ending, which finds Noah and Allie dying together.

Netflix UK, which recently announced the arrival of the film on the streaming service, has upended the world of romantic cinema by changing the movie's ending.

Once a shot of the pair dead in bed together _ it's more romantic than it sounds _ the final shot now shows the notably alive couple lying in bed before cutting to show flying birds above a lake.

Many fans took to Twitter to air their grievances over the change, while others are standing behind it, arguing it's closer to the book's finale than that of the original cut.

Although "The Notebook" is coming to U.S. Netflix on March 1, it's unclear how the film will end on the stateside streaming service.

Netflix was not immediately available for comment.
