Netflix is reportedly making its own documentary about the life of Britney Spears.

The news comes after the success of Hulu’s documentary Framing Britney Spears, which focused on the pop star’s conservatorship battle and the #FreeBritney movement.

The project has yet to be officially confirmed, but Bloomberg reports that production was already underway before Framing Britney Spears was released.

No official title or release date have been disclosed.

Emmy-nominated filmmaker Erin Lee Carr is reportedly attached to direct the project. Carr has previously made documentary films including Thought Crimes: The Case of the Cannibal Cop and Mommy Dead and Dearest.

She has also worked with Netflix before, for one episode of the hit docuseries Dirty Money, as well as How to Fix a Drug Scandal, which debuted on the streaming service last April.

On Friday (12 February), singer Justin Timberlake shared an apology to Spears and singer-songwriter Janet Jackson after facing criticism for the way he acted following his breakup with Spears in 2002.

“I am deeply sorry for the times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem, where I spoke out of turn, or did not speak up for what was right,” he wrote in an Instagram post on Friday.

“The industry is flawed,” he wrote. “It sets men, especially white men, up for success. It’s designed this way. As a man in a privileged position I have to be vocal about this. Because of my ignorance, I didn’t recognise it for all that it was while it was happening in my own life but I do not want to ever benefit from others being pulled down again.”

Framing Britney Spears is available to watch now on Hulu in the US.
