Netflix is gearing up for a HUGE gaming announcement at E3 2019

Netflix isn't a company you'd normally expect to see at E3, the worlds biggest video game expo, but it has announced it will be making an appearance at the show.

The unexpected news came via an official Netflix Twitter account, @ NXOnNetflix, which tweeted the official account of the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) to request an invitation.

The conversation went like this:

Netflix: Getting hype for # E32019. Hey @ E3, can we get an invite?

E3: Sure! Just to hang or....do you guys have something you want to talk about?

Netflix: Definitely want to hang but we also have some gaming news in the works we can talk about. How about a panel?

E3: I think we can squeeze you in. What’s the panel called?

Netflix: How does this sound: "Bringing Your Favorite Shows to Life: Developing Netflix Originals into Video Games"?

E3: Sounds great! Can we get a hint about the games??

Netflix: Of course there's the upcoming @Stranger_Things game but hmmmmm... there’s definitely more to come!

E3: Cool, can't wait! We'll keep checking in with you guys at @ NXOnNetflix for updates.

The E3 account followed up soon afterwards with an official banner advert for the panel, which will be part of E3 Coliseum - a three-day long livestream of panels and talks hosted by Geoff Keighley.

Apple TV app relaunches in the UK - but the best is yet to come

This year's schedule has not been announced, so the exact date and of the Netflix panel is not yet known, but it will be some time between 11 and 13 June.

The Stranger Things game referred to in the conversation is a retro beat-em-up developed by BonusXP, which is due to launch on the Nintendo Switch - and possibly other platforms - on July 4.

That's the same day as the third season of Stranger Things is due to be released on Netflix.

Netflix is testing a 'Top 10' feature in the UK to help you find popular shows

A trailer for the game, released in March, shows characters from the hit show rendered as 16-bit pixel art animations, exploring the town of Hawkins, Indiana, where the series is set.

The game trailer mirrors the show's trailer exactly.

Dustin sprays Lucas in the face with hairspray when the gang scares him. They set out into a field. There's a shot of the local pool. Then they get to Starcourt Mall, where the action gets started.

Even the game trailer's text and much of the dialogue matches the season trailer.

The game will be available on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 as well as the Switch. There will also be PC, Mac and mobile versions.

As for what else Netflix has in store, we'll just have to wait and see.
