Netflix inks Uxbridge property deal for production space

Netflix has signed a London property deal to secure more production space ahead of opening its huge new home at the world-famous Shepperton studios.

Property sources told the Evening Standard that the California-headquartered streaming giant, which counts Black Mirror and Sex Education among its original productions, will use a 134,000 square-feet building called UX1 in Uxbridge for the creation of a new drama series.

The move comes a month after the entertainment behemoth said it is investing in opening stages, workshops and offices at Shepperton Studios this year. It has previously warned of limited studio availability in this country.

It is understood the Uxbridge deal involves Netflix signing a one-year sublet for the UX1 space from MBS, a film production real-estate specialist that has just taken a 10-year lease from landlord Aviva Investors.

Aviva declined to comment on the occupiers but confirmed it had let that building and another one next door. It speculatively developed the properties at Uxbridge Industrial Park.

Alastair Wakefield, associate director, real estate at Aviva Investors, said: “Demand continues to be strong in the industrial and logistics sector across West London and the South East.”

Property agents Colliers International and JLL advised the landlord.
