Netflix horror with a near perfect Rotten Tomatoes score is terrifying viewers

A Netflix series with a near perfect rating by critics on Rotten Tomatoes has been leaving viewers terrified.

Marianne first launched on the streaming platform in 2019, but was cancelled after just one season. Now horror fans are rediscovering the show, hailing it as 'horror gold.'

The French series follows a famous horror writer who is lured back to her hometown. She soon discovers an evil spirit who used to haunt her dreams is causing havoc in real life, amid a series of eerie events.

The eight-part drama, written by Samuel Bodin and Quoc Dang Tran, stars actress Victoire Du Bois as best-selling author Emma Larsimon. Marianne has been met with rave reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, with an impressive score of 94 per cent.

One critic described it as 'nightmares personified' while another said it was 'compelling, mysterious and, above all, creepy as hell.' They added: "You almost can't stop watching Marianne once you start."

Viewers have also shared their thoughts on social media, with some demanding a second season to be made. On Twitter, @GroovyKarloff said: "Finally got to finish ‘MARIANNE’ and man what a show that is. One of the best Netflix shows that I’ve seen. Some really terrifying stuff, too!"

@annwynn05 added: "Binged Marianne for a second time, bring it back! Absolute horror gold!!!" while @xx_Michelle_oo said: "This Marianne on Netflix is f*****g scary af #Marianne". @astroheathen added: "This Marianne show on Netflix is on par with In the Mouth of Madness... So stylish and grotesque. Don't wanna stop watching."

In response to scary series recommendations, @culturalfatwa tweeted: "I only ever have one scary recommendation on Netflix and that's Marianne it is *terrifying*".

Season one of Marianne is available to stream on Netflix now.
