Netflix has stopped supporting Apple AirPlay banning iPhone to TV streaming

Many people now rely on Netflix to watch some of their favourite TV programmes, films and documentaries.

But the streaming service has just made it a lot more difficult for Apple users to tune in.

Netflix no longer supports Apple AirPlay, so users can no longer cast TV programmes and films from their iPhones to their TVs.

The change was first reported by MacRumours, and is allegedly linked to a firmware update that will see Apple send content directly to 2019 TVs, MirrorOnline reports.

In an official statement on the change, a spokesperson for Netflix said: “We want to make sure our members have a great Netflix experience on any device they use.

“With AirPlay support rolling out to third-party devices, there isn’t a way for us to distinguish between devices (what is an Apple TV vs. what isn’t) or certify these experiences.

“Therefore, we have decided to discontinue Netflix AirPlay support to ensure our standard of quality for viewing is being met.

“Members can continue to access Netflix on the built-in app across Apple TV and other devices.”

On Netflix's website, it now advises iOS users to connect to a TV using Chromecast, Netflix 2nd Screen or a physical cable.
