With lockdown restrictions still in place for a few more weeks, plenty of viewers will be needing some entertainment to pass the time on the couch.
Thankfully, Netflix has released a new true-crime documentary series which details the true story of how one of the most notorious serial killers in American history was hunted down and brought to justice.
Netflix’s latest true-crime docuseries centres on the pursuit of Richard Ramirez, the serial murderer and rapist who terrorised Los Angeles in the summer of 1985.
Ramirez was an American serial killer, serial rapist, and burglar. His highly publicised home invasion crime spree terrorized the residents of the greater Los Angeles area and later the residents of the San Francisco area from June 1984 until August 1985. Prior to his capture, Ramirez was dubbed the "Night Stalker" by the news media and during his vicious crimes, he used a wide variety of weapons, including handguns, knives, a machete, a tire iron, and a hammer.
Ramirez, who claimed to be a Satanist, never expressed any remorse for his crimes. The judge who upheld Ramirez's nineteen death sentences remarked that his deeds exhibited "cruelty, callousness, and viciousness beyond any human understanding."
Throughout the years, Ramirez carried out a series of brutal and violent crimes in San Francisco and Los Angeles in 1984 and 1985 and was eventually handed down 19 life sentences for 13 counts of murder, five counts of attempted murder, 11 counts of sexual assault and 14 counts of burglary.
In terms of a synopsis, Netflix state that the series will allow viewers to: "Witness the story of one of the most vicious serial killers in American history, a real-life boogeyman that brought California to a standstill. Beneath the sunlit glamour of 1985 LA lurks a relentlessly evil serial killer. In this true-crime story, two detectives won't rest until they catch him."
The four-part series Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer is now available to watch on Netflix.
