Netflix has released the first images of Henry Cavill in its adaptation of The Witcher.
The actor plays Geralt of Rivia in the platform's version of the fantasy series by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, which has also been turned into a beloved series of video games.
Netflix released a short clip from Cavill in full costume and make-up for the role on Wednesday. Cavill can be seen in the video with long grey hair, clad in black leather, gazing soulfully into the camera.
He doesn't talk in the 23-second clip but turns away from the lens to bring a small flask to his lips, tilting his head back to sip on its contents.
Cavill's casting as Geralt, a monster hunter and the protagonist of Sapkowski's series, was first revealed in September. That same month, Cavill was said to be leaving his role as Superman and the DC Comics universe, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Filming for The Witcher is set to start this month in Hungary. Alongside Cavill, the show will star Anna Shaffer (who played Romilda Vane in the Harry Potter franchise and Ruby Button in Hollyoaks) as sorceress Triss Merigold.
Cavill announced his new role as Geralt on Instagram in September, joking that his new address was now in the Kaer Morhen Valley of Kaedwen. "Please note, I'm rarely there. Monster slaying being what it is," he added in a humorous message. "So, replies will be few and far between, if at all."
