With over 167 million users around the world, Netflix is without a doubt one of the most popular TV and movie streaming services.
But if you use Netflix, make sure you’re on the lookout for a new ‘free subscription’ scam.
South Lanarkshire Council has warned about the new scam, which could let you hackers access your bank accounts.
It explained: “We have seen a new scam email saying that you can win a year's premium subscription to Netflix.
“Clicking on the link leads to a genuine-looking login page which is designed to steal your account and payment details.”
The scam is circulating on both email and text, and prompts you to click a link to ‘update your billing details following a failed payment.’
If you click on this link and fill in your details, it can then allow the hackers to access and drain your accounts.
Netflix said: “We will never ask for your personal information by texts or email. This includes credit or debit card numbers, bank account details, Netflix passwords.
“We will never request payment through a 3rd party vendor or website. If you receive a text or email requesting any of the above, it is not from Netflix.”
If you receive a suspicious text or email that claims to be from Netflix, do not click any links in the messages or reply to them.
Instead, forward the message to phishing@netflix.com, before deleting it.
