Netflix fans set to be terrified by chilling true crime documentary Tiger King

An upcoming Netflix true crime series is set to leave viewers chilled to the bone.

New documentary series Tiger King will follow the story of Joe Maldonado-Passage, a 57-year-old man in Oklahoma who presided over Oklahoma animal park as a wild animal keeper.

Documentary fans may remember 'Joe Exotic' from his appearance on Louis Theroux series America's Most Dangerous Pets in 2011, where he showed of animals to Louis, including caged tigers.

However, there's more to the story than just his role with the beautiful creatures he presided over.

Joe was recently sentenced to 22 years imprisonment for a number of crimes.

Revealing the documentary from their See What's Next account, Netflix described the new docuseries.

They tweeted: "From the executive producer of FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened comes #TigerKing, a new docuseries about Joe Exotic - a gun-toting polygamist who presides over an Oklahoma animal park - and the murder-for-hire plot that led to his arrest."

The incredible story of his crimes begins with Maldonado-Passage's feud with animal rights activisit Carole Baskin, the owner of Big Cat Rescue.

Baskin had devoted much of her life to rescuing endangered animals and was openly critical of Maldonado-Passage's practices and even secured a million-dollar judgement against him and his business in 2011.

In 2017, he told an FBI agent who was undercover at the time that he would pay them $3,000 to kill Baskin, with further payment following her death.

He was eventually convicted on two counts of murder-for-hire, nine counts of violating the Endangered Species Act, and eight counts of falsifying wildlife records.

Maldonado-Passage was then charged IN 2018 with falsifying forms in the sale of tiger cubs between states and then killing five tigers in 2017, which also violated the Endangered Species Act.

On January 22 2020, he was sentenced to 264 months in prison, equalling 22 years.

After the sentencing, Carole Baskin told the Big Cat Rescue site of her horrifying experience.

Carole said: "The evidence showed that over the course of many years, he has tried to coerce others into killing me, and in the end, resorted to hiring others to kill me.

“Because of his constant threats to kill me, I have found myself seeing every bystander as a potential threat.

"My daughter, my husband, my mother, my staff and volunteers have all been in peril because of his obsession with seeing me dead."

Maldonado-Passage maintained via Facebook that he was not guilty of the crimes he was convicted on.

He commented: "If I wasn't living this for real, I would never believe that in America the Government could actually take part in such lies to further an animal rights agenda."

What will this new documentary series reveal of the case?

Tiger King will be released on Netflix on March 20, 2020.
