Netflix drops tantalizing teaser trailer for new mystery thriller series reuniting Claire Danes with 'Homeland' creator

Claire Danes as Aggie Wiggs and Matthew Rhys as Nile Jarvis in "The Beast in Me" on Netflix.

Actress Claire Danes and showrunner Howard Gordon already know how to get pulses racing. The dynamic duo memorably worked together on Showtime's acclaimed espionage thriller "Homeland," which aired for eight seasons from October 2021 to April 2020.

And it looks like they're back at it with yet another nail-biting new show, this time a mystery-thriller miniseries for Netflix: "The Beast in Me" will drop all eight darkly intriguing episodes on the streaming service on Thursday, November 13. But the streamer is giving interested viewers an early look at the series, first in the form of first-look photos and now in a brand-new trailer.

“We are all of us drawn to monsters,” begins Danes' ominous voiceover, as we meet her character Aggie Wiggs, a reclusive author grappling with grief and writer's block after the tragic death of her young son.

The trailer also introduces the new object of her obsession: her recently moved-in neighbor, Nile Jarvis (played by fellow Emmy winner Matthew Rhys of "The Americans" fame). Nile is "a famed and formidable real estate mogul who was once the prime suspect in his wife’s disappearance," reads the series synopsis from Netflix.

"At once horrified and fascinated by this man, Aggie finds herself compulsively hunting for the truth — chasing his demons while fleeing her own — in a game of cat and mouse that might turn deadly."

“We flirt with death to prove we’re truly alive," Aggie's narration continues in the new trailer clip. "And if we can’t stop, then that small fire we lit just might burn the whole house down…with us inside.”

The quick 30-second clip also gives a peek at the rest of the cast, which includes Brittany Snow — hot off the success of another Netflix hit, "The Hunting Wives," which was recently picked up for a second season — as Nile's wife Nina and "Breaking Bad" alum Jonathan Banks as Nile's father Martin. "The Beast in Me" also features Natalie Morales, David Lyons, Tim Guinee, Hettienne Park, Deidre O’Connell, Aleyse Shannon, Will Brill, Kate Burton, Bill Irwin, Amir Arison and Julie Ann Emery.

On reuniting with Danes for the new series, Gordon told Tudum, “I was a fan well before I [met] her. She really has that uniquely rare ability to convey the most interior thoughts, and you know what's going on inside her. There’s a fierce intelligence, but there’s also her vulnerability. She really conveys that.”

However, he adds that, while Danes was always in mind to play Aggie, finding the right Nile was far more difficult. “Matthew happens to be, aside from also another incredibly sweet guy, a fiercely good actor,” Gordon told the outlet. “And I have to confess, not only was I surprised by their chemistry, but I was surprised by how virtuosic he was.”

Danes and Gordon both serve as executive producers on the series, as does creator Gabe Rotter, Jodie Foster, Daniel Pearle, Caroline Barson and the Conaco crew, including Conan O’Brien, Jeff Ross and David Kissinger.
