Netflix drops new ‘Stranger Things’ season 5 trailer — and Demogorgons are taking over Hawkins

David Harbour as Jim Hopper and Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven in "Stranger Things" season 5 on Netflix.

When “Stranger Things” first dropped on Netflix in 2016, it instantly became a defining moment in pop culture: a nostalgic throwback to ’80s sci-fi horror, a mystery about a missing boy, and a powerful girl named Eleven at its heart. Over nearly a decade, the show’s focus on friendship and supernatural terror has gripped millions, and now, with season 5 dropping this week, it’s all coming to a dramatic close.

Netflix has released a new trailer for “Stranger Things” season 5 volume 1, and it’s hard to shake the feeling that everything we’ve loved about the show is hurtling toward an epic finale. The Upside Down is spilling into Hawkins, the danger is more immediate than ever, and it feels like no character is truly safe this time around.

The freshly released trailer for “Stranger Things” season 5 makes it very clear that this is not a quiet return to Hawkins. The town is scarred, fractured, and under military quarantine, a jarring image that speaks to how desperate things have become. The gang is back together, but they’re gearing up not just for survival but for a full-on final showdown against Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower).

One of the creepiest moments in the trailer is when Demogorgons start bursting out of the ground. The Upside Down is now bleeding into the real world after season 4, when Vecna opened multiple gates that weakened the barrier between dimensions, allowing his power (and the monsters of the Upside Down) to start spilling into Hawkins.

The emotional stakes are still very much there, and it’s clear the characters are facing the consequences of everything they’ve been through. One of the most striking closing shots shows Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Jonathan (Charlie Heaton), and Steve (Joe Keery) driving a van straight into a glowing red portal. Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), in particular, is in full-on warrior mode as she uses her powers to jump in the air. Clearly, no one is holding back anymore!

"Stranger Things" season 5 part 1 premieres on Netflix on November 26 at 8:00 p.m. ET, with Volume 2 following December 25 at 8:00 p.m. ET, and the series finale (episode 8) arriving December 31 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
