Netflix is already firming up its slate for early 2026, with the streaming service plotting out the binge-worthy shows that everyone will be watching this winter. Among them is “His & Hers,” an original series that Netflix describes as a “twisty psychological thriller,” and those three words alone are enough for me to be pretty convinced the streaming service has a No. 1 hit in waiting.
This week, Netflix has released first-look images for “His & Hers,” and my interest is increasing with every new detail. This thriller series features two bankable stars, Jon Bernthal and Tessa Thompson, along with a compelling premise. Based on Alice Feeney’s novel of the same name, it follows a recluse who becomes obsessed with a murder in her hometown, alongside a detective who begins to suspect the former might be involved in the crime.
The six-episode series will arrive on Netflix on January 8, 2026, and based on all the evidence, it could be Netflix’s first must-watch original show of the new year. I'll have to wait a few months before I can cast a final judgment on "His & Hers", but at this stage, I’m certainly sold on its core setup, and I suspect it will greatly appeal to the thriller-hungry Netflix subscribers.
‘His & Hers’ on Netflix — here’s what we know
Alongside the first images, Netflix has also dropped a logline: “In the sweltering heat of Atlanta, Anna (Thompson) lives in haunted reclusion, fading away from her friends and career as a news anchor. But when she overhears talk about a murder in Dahlonega — the sleepy north Georgia town where she grew up — Anna is snapped back to life, pouncing on the case and searching for answers. Detective Jack Harper (Bernthal) is strangely suspicious of her involvement, chasing her into the crosshairs of his own investigation."
As noted, the show will star Tessa Thompson (who’s also an executive producer on the show) and Jon Bernthal, and there’s plenty of talent behind the camera as well. The Netflix series comes from William Oldroyd, the filmmaker behind the underappreciated 2023 psychological thriller movie “Eileen” with Ann Hathaway. Though Oldroyd isn’t serving as showrunner, that task falls to Dee Johnson. Bill Dubuque is also on board as a writer.
“I am beyond elated to be collaborating with a filmmaker I have long admired and an incredible team to make a fresh offering in a genre that I can never get enough of,” said Thompson in an exclusive interview with Netflix’s Tudum. “From the second I heard what Will [Oldroyd] was imagining doing with Alice Feeney’s brilliant book to the moment I visited the town where our story is set, I was hooked.”
I’m eagerly awaiting our first proper trailer for “His & Hers,” and hopefully that will solidify the upcoming series as one of the first Netflix must-watches of 2026. But even at this early stage, with just a few promotional images to pore over, I’m getting the impression that this original is going to present viewers with a very compelling investigation where the truth isn’t so easy to spot.
