Netflix documentary The Pharmacist deemed unmissable as it shocks and disturbs viewers

New documentary The Pharmacist has been heralded as unmissable by Netflix viewers less than a day after its release.

The synopsis for the doc on the Netflix website, reads: "After his son's tragic death, a Louisiana pharmacist goes to extremes to expose the rampant corruption behind the opioid addiction crisis."

The pharmacist is Dan Schneider and the documentary follows his attempts to track the man who killed his son during a drug-related shooting in New Orleans.

“At first, my mission was to get justice for my son, but I started noticing in the drug store a lot of kids around my son’s age coming in with high-powered opioid prescriptions for OxyContin,” says Schneider in the documentary’s trailer," before adding: " I saw the opioid epidemic in its infancy - I’m not gonna let this junk continue to kill."

Following hot on the heels of , The Pharmacist, directed by Julia Willoughby Nason and Jenner Furst, was released on Wednesday and has sparked a huge reaction on social media within hours of its launch.

Taking to Twitter, one viewer wrote: "Do yourself a favour and watch #ThePharmacist. I’m obsessed. This show is horrifying, deeply unsettling and the most disturbing part is probably Dr. Cleggett’s on screen time. This is absolutely mental and worth a binge," and another reacted "The Pharmacist on Netflix might be one of the CRAZIEST documentaries I’ve ever seen."

Another impressed binge watcher, tweeted: "I finished watching The Pharmacist on Netflix last night and I recommend! True crime lovers y'all gonna love this. A story of a concerned father, taking down opioid abuse problem after losing his son."
