Netflix documentaries that will have you on the edge of your seat

It's getting to that time of year where we are relying on a good show to watch or series to binge on over the dark nights.

And Netflix UK has endless amounts of incredibly thrilling, laugh-out-loud and emotional shows.

This weekend Belfast Live has pulled together a list of gripping documentaries and docuseries to add to your list.

It's more binge-worthy if it's based on true events, right?

1. Evil Genius

Evil Genius (Netflix)

The true story of America's most diabolical bank heist - this baffling four-part true crime story starts with the grisly death of a pizza man who robs a bank with a bomb around his neck - and it gets weirder from there.

Netflix describes Evil Genius as "provocative and investigative."

2.Unsolved Mysteries

Unsolved Mysteries (Netflix)

This Netflix original docu series has two volumes with six episodes in each - easily watched in one weekend.

Delving into unsolved mysteries from across the world, Netflix describes this series as "ominous and investigative".

Real cases of perplexing disappearances, shocking murders and paranormal encounters fuel the gripping revival of the iconic docuseries. 

3. Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich

Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich (Netflix)

This Netflix series has four episodes to it - and is on the streaming site for a limited period of time.

Stories from survivors fuel this docuseries examining how convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein used his wealth and power to carry uot his abuses.

5. The trials of Gabriel Fernandez

The trials of Gabriel Fernandez (Netlifx)

A boy's brutal murder and the public trial of his guardians and social workers prompt questions in this series about the system's protection of vulnerable.

An "emotional and investigated" limited Netflix series.

6. The Staircase

The Staircase (Netflix)

Accident or murder? After the mysterious death of his wife, author Michael Peterson watches his life go under the microscope. 

Each episode is roughly 45 minutes long and this "provocative, dark and investigative" docuseries has 13 episodes of gripping action.

7. Don't F**k with Cats

Don't F**k with Cats (Netflix)

This programme is controversial, Netflix says.

A shocking online video brings together a widespread internet group of animal lovers out for justice. Their target, meanwhile, has more horrors planned.

The three, one hour long episodes are now available on Netflix UK.

8. The mind of Aaron Hernandez

The mind of Aaron Hernandez (Netflix)

A limited Netflix series, this three part docuseries examines how Aaron Hernandez went from an NFL star to a convicted killer.

9. American Murder: The family next door

American Murder: The family next door (Netflix)

Using raw, first hand footage, this documentary examines the disappearance of Shannan Watts and her two children and the terrible events that followed.

10. Abducted in Plain Sight

Abducted in Plain Sight (Netflix)

In this true crime documentary, a family falls prey to the manipulative charms of a neighbor, who abducts their adolescent daughter. Twice.
