Netflix is teaming up with the creator of Orange is the New Black for an anthology series named Social Distance - but not everyone is a fan of the idea.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Jenji Kohan will create the scripted anthology series, which will reflect the “new, bizarre, bewildering reality we are all experiencing.”

Bones scribe Hilary Weisman Graham will write the scripts and serve as showrunner, with Diego Velasco set to direct.

The yet-to-be-announced cast will film themselves performing at home, while Velasco will direct them remotely.

“We've been inspired to create an anthology series that tells stories about the current moment we are living through — the unique, personal, deeply human stories that illustrate how we are living apart, together,” the full statement reads.

“The experience of social distancing is currently universal, but no individual story is the same. Through a broad spectrum of tales and moments, some seismic and some mundane, we hope to capture a moment in time. And we hope that Social Distance will help people feel closer to one another."

But social media users were sceptical of the idea, with some saying it "too soon" for a series about the coronavirus pandemic.

“Cool cool, I hope Jenji Kohan follows this up with an anthology series about the week after the 2016 election, because that’s another thing we def all want to relive,” wrote one user.

“I love Jenji Kohan, but I think this might be the actual definition of 'too soon'," added another.

"Honestly the last thing I want after living through this is to watch someone else live through it," wrote another.

The series will reportedly be short-form, shot in a found-footage style, with audiences viewing the actors as they view their electronic devices.

The show will reportedly be produced in-house as part of Kohan's deal with Netflix.
