Netflix confirms its top 10 most watched TV series and films for first time ever

Netflix has revealed its most watched TV shows and films, after years of famously keeping its viewing data secret.

Coming out on top for TV is the first series of period drama Bridgerton, which debuted last Christmas to much fanfare.

Throughout its first 28 days on the streaming service, it attracted roughly 82 million subscribers - who collectively watched a staggering 625 million hours of the Regency-set series.

Coming it at second is the first 'part' of French mystery thriller Lupin, which drew in 76 million Netflix subscribers.

Rounding out the top 5 are the first series of fantasy show The Witcher, drama series Sex/Life and the third series of Netflix mainstay Stranger Things, as reported by The Mirror.

But South Korean horror-thriller series Squid Game, released on September 17, is on course to overtake Bridgerton after positive reviews online.

Mr Sarandos said: “We did not see that coming, in terms of its global popularity.”

As for film, placing in first is action thriller film Extraction, which stars Chris Hemsworth as an Australian black ops mercenary whose mission to rescue an Indian drug lord's kidnapped son in Dhaka, Bangladesh goes awry.

Second place post-apocalyptic horror Bird Box, while action comedy Spenser Confidential, action thriller 6 Underground, and Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston-starring Murder Mystery round out the top 5.
