Netflix confirms it's top 10 most watched TV shows and films as Bridgerton tops list

Raunchy period drama Bridgerton is the most watched show ever on Netflix, the firm revealed.

Some 82 million subscribers tuned in during its first 28 days on the streaming service, with a total of 625 million hours watched.

The show follows Daphne Bridgerton, played by Phoebe Dynevor, 26, as she makes her debut on to Regency London’s marriage market.

It also stars Regé-Jean Page, 31, who has been tipped by ex-007 Pierce Brosnan to take over as James Bond.

Ted Sarandos, the streamer’s co-CEO, released the list of its global hits at a conference in Beverly Hills.

Bridgerton saw off French series Lupin and fantasy show The Witcher.

The top film was Extraction – about a captured CIA agent – with 99 million views, followed by Sandra Bullock’s sci-fi hit Bird Box with 89 million.

The second series of Bridgerton is expected to be released early next year.

Emily In Paris finished in tenth place (NETFLIX)

But South Korean horror-thriller series Squid Game, released on September 17, is on course to overtake Bridgerton after positive reviews online.

Mr Sarandos said: “We did not see that coming, in terms of its global popularity.”
