Netflix' Bridgerton announces new female lead for second series as Sex Education star

A new female lead has been announced for the next series of Bridgerton.

The Netflix drama has already been confirmed for a second season following its worldwide success after its release on Christmas Day.

With that, Sex Education star Simone Ashley has been cast as the as new lead which we already know will focus on Anthony Bridgerton.

The 25-year-old British actress will appear as Kate who is described as "a smart, headstrong young woman who suffers no fools - Anthony Bridgerton very much included".

Filming is set to begin in the UK during the spring.

Fans of the series, which has been watched in its droves, have been reacting to the news.

"Ohhhhhh she is coming!!!! Can’t wait," wrote one.

Another said: "Love this casting. She absolutely has that 'nothing becomes you, Lord Bridgerton' energy that I need in my life."

"OH IM IN LOVE ALREADY," gushed a third.

For those who haven't seen it yet (where have you been?), the first series stars Rege-Jean Page as the Duke of Hastings and Phoebe Dynevor as regency London debutant Daphne Bridgerton.

It has been that popular more than 80 million households have indulged in the Netflix series.
