Netflix' Bridgerton announce four new cast members after Duke's exit

Netflix hit Bridgerton has announced four new cast members will be joining the series.

Charithra Chandran, Shelley Conn, Calam Lynch and Rupert Young will all join the raunchy period drama for series two.

It comes after fans were left devastated by the news that the Duke of Hastings, played by Rege-Jean Page, would not appear in the follow-up.

The announcement was made on Friday (April 2) in a post shared to the official Bridgerton Twitter account.

Rege-Jean, 31, said it was a "pleasure and a privilege" to star in Bridgerton and later explained his character, Simon Basset, was always only going to appear in the first season while Daphne Bridgerton, played by Phoebe Dynevor, will return.

Netflix previously said Sex Education star Simone Ashley will play the female lead in the second series of Bridgerton, appearing as Kate.

Charithra will play Edwina Sharma, Kate’s younger sister, while Shelley will appear as Mary, Kate’s mother.

Calam will play Theo Sharpe and Rupert will play Jack.

The official account for the series tweeted in true Lady Whistledown style: "Dear Readers, it seems we have a few new faces in the Ton. Do try your best to welcome them generously. I know I certainly will..."
