Netflix Avatar: The Last Airbender cast starring Marvel and 13 Reasons Why actors

Netflix has announced the first four main cast members for its upcoming live-action adaptation of Nickelodeon’s animated series, including Marvel and 13 Reasons Why stars.

Avatar: The Last Airbender follows the adventures of Aang and his friends as they attempt to defeat the Fire Lord and end the destructive war with the Fire Nation, saving the world in the process.

The streaming service also confirmed the core creative team for the new Avatar series, with Albert Kim (Nikita, Sleepy Hollow) on board as writer, executive producer and showrunner.

Dan Lin (Aladdin, The Lego Movie) and Lindsey Liberatore (Walker) will join Kim to serve as executive producers for the new Netflix series.

Who is in the Avatar: The Last Airbender cast?

Gordon Cormier

Gordon Cormier will take the lead role as Aang, a fun-loving, adventurous twelve year old who also happens to be the Avatar, master of the four elements and protector of balance and peace in the world.

Aang is a reluctant hero who struggles to juggle his duties with his fearless and playful nature.

Cormier is known for his roles in Netflix’s Lost in Space, animated series Zenko Go and Disney Plus’ recent TV adaptation of Turner and Hooch .

Kiawentiio

Kiawentiio has joined the cast as Katara, the last waterbender in her small village.

According to Deadline, the 14-year-old has a “warm and caring spirit,” despite going through a great personal tragedy that resulted in her being unable to rise to her true potential.

The actress’ recent roles include the lead role in the critically acclaimed feature film Beans and a recurring role opposite Ed Helms in Peacock’s new comedy series Rutherford Falls. She can also be heard in Marvel’s new animated series, What If…?

Ian Ousley

Katara’s sarcastic older brother Sokka will be played by Ian Ousley. Sokka takes his duty as his tribe’s leader seriously, and is described as outwardly confident, brash and resourceful with a deadpan sense of humour masking inner doubts over his warrior skills.

Ousley’s breakout role came in the form of Netflix series 13 Reasons Why’s Robby Corman. He has also appeared in Disney Plus’ Big Shot and will soon be seen in Apple TV’s new dramedy Physical alongside Rose Byrne.

Dallas Lui

Rounding out the main cast is Dallas Lui, who plays Zuko, a skilled firebender who also happens to be Crown Prince of the Fire Nation.

Zuko, who we meet roaming the world in exile, is on a quest to capture the Avatar in a bid to reclaim his old life and prove himself to the Fire Lord, his cruel and controlling father.

Lui’s past film and TV credits include Hulu comedy series PEN15, Netflix’s The Who Was? Show and CBS’ CSI: Cyber. He’ll next be seen in Marvel’s upcoming film, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
