Netflix actor playing Prince Charles in The Crown glad he didn't get ears pinned back as a kid

The actor playing Prince Charles in the new series of The Crown says he is relieved he chose not to have his ears pinned back when he was a boy.

Josh O’Connor said his lugs helped him land the sought-after role in the Netflix drama.

The actor, who appeared in this year’s BBC adaptation of Les Miserables, will play Charles when the big-budget drama returns for a third series, with Olivia Colman taking over the role of the Queen from Claire Foy.

The star of The Durrells said: “When I was at school, I was embarrassed by them and I wanted to pin them back. Now it’s like, ‘Thank God I didn’t’.

“Hopefully I would have been considered regardless but it helped and, the way I see it, it saved The Crown production on some prosthetics.”

O’Connor, who appears in the new film Only You, said he has never experienced this level of anticipation for one his projects before.

He added: “I was really excited to play the character of Prince Charles and I just kept seeing it as a character and not as the real person.

“It’s a piece of work that I’m really proud of… you’re not always really proud of stuff but I am of that one.

“I’m really excited for people to see it.”
