Netflix accused of funnelling £330million profits 'into tax havens'

Netflix has been accused of funnelling up to £330million of its profits into tax havens.

Think-tank TaxWatch estimates that £860million of revenues paid by the streaming service’s 10 million UK subscribers goes to the Netherlands, where it then negotiates special tax deals.

They claim that, globally, Netflix moved between £250million and £330million of profits to tax havens in 2018.

TaxWatch also says that two UK Netflix entities were given £611,000 tax relief on their productions over 2017-2018.

Olivia Colman this week won a Golden Globe for her role in Netflix show The Crown.

George Turner, director of TaxWatch, said: “Netflix’s corporate structure is designed to avoid taxes.

"While the company profits from shifting cash from UK subscribers offshore, it also claims handouts from the UK Government.”

Netflix declined to comment.
