Everyone knows Marvel characters like Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Captain America, but what do you know about Doop and Phone Ranger? Get ready to maybe see them in-game in Marvel Rivals in a few years.
Marvel Rivals director Guangyun Chen recently said in an interview with VideoGamer that the game's development team is "licensed to explore the full Marvel universe" and draw from "over 85 years" of weird, obscure, and unique characters. With a new hero set to launch every month starting with season three on July 11, this basically means things are going to get weird.

There's no shortage of weird and silly characters in Marvel, and the list gets especially big when you dive deep into the expansive roster of the most obscure heroes and villains. Marvel Rivals already has some unique ones in Jeff the Land Shark and Squirrel Girl, but it could only get odder from there.
While NetEase is currently set to "focus on the heavy-hitters" like season three's additions of Jean Grey/Phoenix and Blade, Chen said the team will eventually "shine a light on some lesser-known yet equally fascinating characters." Oh yeah, this is gonna get fun.
There's a long list of animal-like or anthropomorphic characters to continue the trend, such as Howard the Duck, Hit-Monkey, Spider-Ham, Hellcow, Frog-Man, Swarm, Lockjaw, Orka, and Gibbon. Jeff likely won't be the only animal in the game for long.
And then there's humanoid characters like Paste Pot Pete and M.O.D.O.K. (already found mentioned within the files), or how about Doorman, who is literally a living doorway? Have you heard of Doctor Bong? Slapstick? Gamecock? Doop? Yeah, have fun googling some of these.
And so I ask you, dear reader, which obscure or weird Marvel character do you hope to be playing as soon in Marvel Rivals? Answer our poll and let us know in the comments below.
