NET Nottingham tram services 'unable to operate' from Friday night due to strike action

Disruption to Nottingham tram services will start on Friday (November 5) night after staff strike action was announced.

It comes after workers union GMB rejected a revised pay offer made by NET, with a workplace ballot voting in favour of industrial action.

One driver told Nottinghamshire Live that staff were "livid" at their current wage and that the strike would involve not only drivers but technicians, infrastructure and revenue workers.

Strike action was confirmed for Saturday, November 6 - but now NET has confirmed it will be unable to operate any of its services late on Friday evening, November 5.

They also say the shuttle bus service laid on for Nottingham Forest fans will continue as normal ahead of their home match against Preston North End on Saturday.

In a statement, NET said: "Due to industrial action by the GMB union, NET is unable to operate any late evening services on Friday, November 5 and throughout Saturday, November 6.

"In response, a range of measures have been put in place by NET to help reduce inconvenience to customers. These include the acceptance of tram tickets on Trent Barton’s Rainbow One, Threes and Indigo buses as well as all NCT services.

"The measures will be in place from 9.30pm on Friday as it will take some time for services to be wound down ahead of the start of industrial action at midnight. We would therefore urge customers to plan ahead and aim to complete their tram journey by 10pm.

"We are sorry for the inconvenience for customers, and we will resume services from 6am on Sunday morning.

"The complimentary shuttle bus for the Nottingham Forest match on Saturday will operate as normal from outside Nottingham Station before and after the game."

NET say the union has advised them they intend to strike on November 6 if no improved offer is made - which means there could be further disruption for customers.
