Nestle announces plans for brand new limited edition Yorkie bar

Orange flavoured chocolate is the hyped up treat of the moment - and confectionary lovers can expect a new sweet treat to hit the shelves next month.

Due to the ongoing success of the classic Terry's Chocolate Orange confectionary companies around the world have waded in on the craze for orange-flavoured chocolate.

Cadbury has released Orange Twirl and orange Dairy Milk in the past but now it is the turn of food and drink giants Nestle to join in the on the fun.

Rumours of a Yorkie Orange began to surface on social media earlier this year, and now Nestle have confirmed a release date for the new bar.

Surprising some followers on social media on Friday, the official Yorkie Facebook page announced : "Solid. Chunky. Chocolate… now with ORANGE. Who’s excited?"

And within minutes, dozens of comments flooded the post from excited shoppers.

Amy Kendall, brand manager for Yorkie, said: “Yorkie has been a consumer favourite for 45 years, and we’re very excited to introduce a brand new twist on this chocolate classic.

“Delicious chunks of our signature Yorkie creamy milk chocolate are enlivened with irresistible orange to create a moreish taste sensation that we hope will become a firm favourite.”

Reacting to the announcement on Facebook, one fan described the news as a "game changer".

One user said: "Of course it’s orange!! What a shock (I will be trying it though!!)

The orange chocolate hype is real for one fan, who posted: "Orange flavoured chocolate what could be better?"

And another said: "OMG!! I so can't wait!!! How about a dark chocolate version?"

The limited edition 46g Yorkie Orange bar and 72g Yorkie Orange Duo bar will be available from 10 May.

And Nestle said it pounced to produce the new bar after sales of orange-flavoured chocolate saw a 23% sales growth in 2020.

However, as with other limited edition chocolate bars, customers often complain at the difficulty of finding them.

It is not yet known what stores will be stocking the new treat, but be sure to keep your eye out for one before they're gone.
