Disaster struck a wedding party as at least 12 guests were killed when a packed minibus plunged 650ft into a gorge in the Himalayas.
The vehicle was carrying passengers back from the wedding in Nepal when it veered off the narrow mountain road it was travelling on, falling nearly 200 metres down the mountainside killing everyone on board.
The packed bus was reportedly over capacity when the tragic crash happened on a mountain road in Karnali province about 250 miles northwest of the Nepali capital Kathmandu.
The timing of the crash, late on Monday evening, and the remote location of the road meant it took rescuers a long time to reach the scene. By the time help got there eight people had already died.
Three more died on the way to hospital and another passed away after reaching hospital.
Local news reported that the bus rolled about 650 feet down the mountain after driving off the road near Chedagad village.
Many more remote mountain roads in Nepal are poorly maintained and vehicles are often not kept in good working order - both of which result in frequent accidents on the mountianous country’s roads.
Meanwhile a bus carrying a marriage party crashed and killed at least 25 people when it plunged down a steep gorge in India last month.
A group of 45 to 50 people were celebrating a wedding as they rode the bus near Timari village in India's mountainous Uttarakhand region.
Speaking with the Times of India, unidentified officials said rescuers are struggling with the difficult terrain around the site of the crash.
In July at least 16 people were killed and 25 left injured, including schoolchildren, after a private bus tumbled over a cliff in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh in India.
The bus was carrying 45 passengers at the time of the incident, reports say.
The private bus was transporting students and local commuters at around 8am local time.
The driver - who was taking most of the passengers to nearby Sainj - lost control of the vehicle before it rolled down the sheer hillside, the Times of India said.
As it plunged down the gorge, the bus flipped over several times and landed on its roof - leaving several passengers trapped in the wreckage.
