Netflix has announced a whole new slate of anime programming, including the streaming debut of cult-classic Neon Genesis Evangelion.
The series has been so far extremely difficult for UK fans to get their hands on, despite being a well-respected and influential entry into the genre.
Airing between 1995 and 1996, the show takes place in an imagined future of 2015, when Tokyo 3 comes under attack from powerful creatures known as the Angels. Shinji Ikari is chosen to pilot the Humanoid Decisive Weapon Evangelion, a giant bio-machine mecha that is humanity's only way to fight back.
Shinji must help protect the human race, while also discovering the nature of the Angels, and what drives their destruction. Two accompanying films, Evangelion: Death True² and The End of Evangelion will also debut on Netflix. The series is set to debut in spring on next year.
Also debuting on Netflix are Rilakkuma and Kaoru, launching 19 April 2019; Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac, launching summer 2019; 7Seeds, launching April 2019; and Ultraman, launching 1 April 2019.
