A band of Neo-Nazis have been performing masked torchlit rituals at National Trust sites.
The fanatics called Woden’s Folk have vandalised one landmark and vowed to “take back” England’s ancient locations.
The Trust said it would step up security as it emerged the far right group held ceremonies at two of its sites.
The heritage conservation charity said it knew groups held rituals at Avebury – the world’s oldest stone circle, in Wiltshire – which were reported to police.
But fanatics have also carved swastikas into trees at Wayland’s Smithy, a Neolithic burial chamber in Oxfordshire.
It is claimed one ritual at a Trust site was attended by members of neo-Nazi organisation Combat 18 and the banned terror group National Action.
Woden’s Folk boast about launching an “English resistance” and promise followers reward in the afterlife if they die in the “struggle for freedom”.
The group’s website claims it is linked to Odinism – a Norse religion followed by Anders Brevik, who murdered 77 Norwegian people in one day in 2011.
Another Odinist is Brenton Tarrant, who is awaiting trial charged with shooting dead 51 people in Christ-church, New Zealand, earlier this year.
A Trust spokesman said it was difficult to improve safety at Avebury but there will be more patrols at Wayland’s Smithy.
