Neo-Nazi Thomas Sewell was arrested in relation to the attack on Camp Sovereignty in Melbourne / Naarm on Sunday afternoon.
The 32-year-old was arrested outside the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this afternoon, alongside two other men in their early twenties.”
“Detectives from Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit attended Melbourne Magistrates’ Court about 3.20pm this afternoon,” a Victoria Police spokesperson told PEDESTRIAN.TV.
“Officers arrested a 32-year-old man from Balwyn, a 23-year-old man from Mooroolbark and a 20-year-old man from Ardeer. They are being interviewed in relation to an ongoing investigation into alleged assaults in King’s Domain about 5pm on 31 August.”
Sewell was allegedly spotted with approximately 50 men storming the Camp Sovereignty protest site in the King’s Domain following Sunday’s so-called ‘March for Australia’ protest.
In footage shared on social media, men can be seen attacking the large letters that spell out the camp’s name, as well as swinging sticks and poles at camp activists.
In a statement on Monday morning, published in The Guardian, Camp Sovereignty and the Black Peoples Union alleged the group “ran up the hill and immediately targeted women, grabbing them, throwing them to the ground, and striking them in the head”.
Four people required medical attention and two were taken to hospital with severe head injuries, the camp said.
Sewell’s arrest comes hours after he made headlines for interrupting Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan‘s press conference.
“We know how these goons operate,” Allan later said of the stunt. “They whip up fear to divide our society and they will fail.”
