Nemanja Matic speaks out on leaving Man United for Jose Mourinho reunion at Tottenham

Nemanja Matic has played down speculation he could leave Manchester United in January to join Tottenham Hotspur.

The Serbian has so far played for two clubs under Jose Mourinho. He would add a third to that list if he joined Spurs in the new year.

During his time playing for the Portuguese at Chelsea he won a Premier League title.

He is still to lift a trophy at United and is no longer deemed to be a first team regular by Mourinho's replacement in the dugout, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Matic could leave Old Trafford in January if the right offer were to come along although Spurs are not understood to be targeting the 31-year-old despite his associations with the new head coach at Hotspur Way.

The midfielder was asked in an interview with Omnisport about his future and the obvious links with Tottenham ahead of the start of the winter transfer window.

"As I know, you never know what's going to happen in life," he said. "At the moment I'm a Manchester United player and very focused on my job and in the future we will see what's going to happen."

According to the Manchester Evening News , United will allow Matic to leave in January in order to bring in a replacement. He is out of contract at the end of the season.

The 31-year-old was signed by Mourinho for a second stint at Chelsea in 2014 from Benfica, the club he left the Blues to join in 2011.

He left Stamford Bridge as a rangy attacking midfielder, in a deal that saw David Luiz sign for the west London side.

After three seasons in Lisbon he returned to Chelsea as a defensive midfielder and was immediately installed in the team by Mourinho to lay the foundations for his third Premier League title win in 2012.
