Nemanja Matic says Manchester United squad is 'perfectly balanced' following Cristiano Ronaldo arrival

By Daniel Feliciano

Nemanja Matic believes the current Manchester United squad is the best he's ever been a part of following the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.

The Reds added Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho to their first-team squad as they chase a first Premier League title since 2013 and a first trophy since 2017, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer leading the charge.

But after an okay season last year that ended with a penalty shootout defeat in the Europa League final to Villarreal and a second-placed finish in the Premier League, United have added some firepower to their squad in the form of the legendary Portugal attacker, who returned to the club 12 years after initially leaving.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the former Serbia international spoke about the signing of Ronaldo and what it has done for the squad's morale too.

"I have to say, my son when he heard that he [Ronaldo] is coming here he almost cried so that tells you everything.

"I'm happy he's with us because he's one of the best football players in history so it's always good to know that you're going to play with him, train with him so I'm happy. Everyone is excited. I see him in training motivated and happy that he is here, so it's perfect for everyone.

"He feels in Manchester like he's home and he loves our club, so as I said for everyone it's good. For him, the club, us, the supporters, it's always good to have him in the changing room.

"Since I've been here I think this is the best squad, in my opinion. I think we have the perfect balance in the team now, in every position we have great, great competition so yeah I agree we have the best team now."

Matic started as the holding midfielder for United ahead of Fred in the 4-1 home win over Newcastle on Saturday, where Ronaldo scored twice on his second debut for the club.

He will be hoping to keep his place in the side for United's trip to Switzerland to take on Young Boys in the Champions League on Tuesday evening after his excellent performance.
