Nemanja Matic names three staff members who should stay at Manchester United with Solskjaer

Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic wants three members of the club's backroom staff to remain at Old Trafford along with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Solskjaer has guided United to 14 wins in his 19 games in charge - a run that has included impressive victories away to Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.

It was reported on Tuesday morning that the Norwegian could be confirmed as Jose Mourinho's permanent successor this week and Matic is keen for him to stay along with assistant manager Mike Phelan as well as coaches Kieran McKenna and Michael Carrick.

"I think he (Solskjaer) is a great manager," Matic told ESPN. "But you have to say also that with Mike, Michael and Kieran, they work very well together. They work as a team. It is not only Ole.

"There are people behind him who help us. I will be happy if he stays, and I hope he will."

On United's upturn in form since Solskjaer arrived as Mourinho's replacement on December 19, Matic added: "When you have good results, the confidence is higher. Especially in our team, confidence is very important because we have a lot of young players.

"After winning a few games under Ole, it was easier for us. To be honest, I don't know exactly what he has changed. After we won at Cardiff it was easier for us to play."

Solskjaer is expected to provide an injury update on Matic in his press conference on Friday after the 30-year-old withdrew from Serbia's squad for their international games against Germany and Portugal.
