Nemanja Matic makes prediction about Erik ten Hag's Manchester United ahead of summer farewell

Nemanja Matic thinks there 'has to be better times ahead' at Manchester United.

United were expected to fight for the Premier League title this season, however, they've equalled their longest trophy drought for 40 years instead. United have reduced to fighting for Europa League football and the campaign couldn't end quickly enough.

Ralf Rangnick's side drew 1-1 with Chelsea on Thursday night and there are now just three games remaining. Matic started at Old Trafford against the London club and he assisted Cristiano Ronaldo for United's equaliser following Marcos Alonso's goal.

Matic is set to leave United at the end of the season and he was asked about his imminent exit after the full-time whistle. The midfielder admitted it's been a 'pleasure' to play for United and he predicted 'better times ahead' for the club.

"I try to enjoy [final games for United], of course," Matic told Sky Sports.

"For me it has been a pleasure and an honour to play at Old Trafford for five years and I will do my best to help my team. I'll just repeat, it's been a pleasure. Three more games to play and United will stay forever in my heart, together with Chelsea.

"I also played for Chelsea. It has been an honour to be part of everything. There has to be better times ahead. United is a big club, expectations are high. I think at the end of the season, the club needs to move forward to see where they can improve.

"I will [always] be a supporter. I'm sure better times will come. I haven't decided yet [future plans]. I have three more games and after that I will decide my future."
