Nemanja Matic 'lined up for January Man Utd exit' after falling down pecking order

Nemanja Matic could be on the brink of an exit from Manchester United - with Inter Milan reportedly keen on taking him to Serie A.

Despite United's worst start to a campaign for 30 years, boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has still been reluctant to use Matic with the Serbian appearing in just four of 11 matches so far this term.

His last appearance came in the dismal 0-0 draw in the Netherlands against AZ Alkmaar and he was overlooked for the 1-0 defeat at Newcastle in the club's last Premier League game.

The 31-year-old's lack of playing time has seen him become a target in January with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

And, according to reports in Italy, Inter are pondering a swoop for the midfielder in January.

Antonio Conte is not plotting wholesale changes when the winter window opens owing to Inter's impressive start to the season and a title challenge with Juventus in the Italian top flight.

But Conte could ask for one 'low-cost' midfield addition which, due to his contract situation, Matic would be.

United have the option to extend Matic's deal by one year should they wish, but his lack of playing time would make that appear unlikely currently.

Conte worked with Matic at Chelsea before the Serbian was sold to United.
